Wha'ppen To Dancehall Music?

True the times are hard, nuff tunes/artists a come out these days, but hotta hits are harder to find still... Mr Vegas mines this same vein in a report on the current state of dancehall music an' stage shows, posted on his MySpace blog, January 6th, 2010. Here are his comments unda the heading Stage Show Gone Bad:

I have been to a few shows over the holidays and I realize that these “now a day” artists that say they running the place is a bunch of waste of time and peoples money. If you take away the war from these artist them nuh good not even near good. If they not throwing words at each other on stage they can't entertain a crowd for 15 minutes, I am back stage like, what the fu.k is that? What has the music gone to?

Trust me after the mc call these now a days artist name and the crowd roar and they run out with the first two songs that’s it. Everything is a sleep walk to the end of the performance, they do not have what it takes to hold a crowd attention them performance lame as a duck.

I remember when I was growing up and if you get a chance to see a show live or a video of the show, Tiger, Admiral Bailey, Stitchie, Papa San, then to Ninja, Shabba, Buju, & Beenie (before him start gi weh him ting and forgot he is the king), had the crowd eating out of their hands. From start to finish all when the come off people asking for more, now the people dem just stand up a look like, did I pay for this shit?

Without the auto tune weh them use inna the studio fi mek the song sound decent them artist yah sound like shit mi nah lie. The one Good new talent that is out there I-octane the radio and selector not looking at him, they only waan be apart of Gaza/Gully.

Now to the female artist them, my Gooood what a tragedy they caan stay out after 5.30 cause the rubbish truck comes around that time. I don't understand how they got into music I was at teen splash back stage and I swear them look like market woman and their voice is a whole different story the crowd sing them song better than them, they have no key, no idea, nothing, I want to vomit.

Fu.king Bruce Golding them weh a get involve inna dancehall music need to ban all computer from the studio, or ban the producer dem weh produce these no talent mashing up the music artist yah, Bob Marley block the road on me last night, him say Vegas do not go over sting is pure fu.kery over deh. The worst part of this shit is, its going world wide via stream so the whole world get to see the shit we accepting. People of Jamaica need to do better cause I know they know better music they use to run people off stage with this shit.

Come on people are we hearing the same thing, if we keep supporting this shit we will never get back to music, right now is only fu.kery. And for the promoter them weh keep teen splash and put some of these artist on to perform for 11 and 12 year old kids hmmmm mi rest it deh so.
A serious ting dat, time fee bridge deh ol' time vibez with a new sound that can carry deh swing. Where dem tough producer with an ear fee deh sound dat make people gather round? Ova the years Vegas a cut nuff wicked tunes... Showcased below are some a de hottest dem - Not true dreadie?... Yeah!

Mr.Vegas Unleashes RED HOT SUMMER SCORCHER - "Mus Come A Road"

After last year's big tune Lean With It on the Taxi label's Darker Shade Of Black Riddim, dancehall's favorite sing jay has returned with another steamy single, Mus Come a Road. This new song, which has been boiling on the underground dancehall circuit, is sure to dash up the charts. Produced by Rellee of "Raging Bull" fame and penned by Clifford Smith AKA Mr. Vegas, Mus Come a Road will surely set the summer on fire.

When the pulsating beat drops for Mus Come a Road, a sense of nostalgia evokes, as the song is built on Barrington Levy's 1982 smash Prison Oval Rock. Vegas' millennium version of the cult classic thrives with a Barrington Levy sample, which is looped through out the song. The original cut evolved from dances in Spanish Town that were held near a prison. Barrington Levy, clearly Vegas' favorite singer, vividly described the whole era in his hit. Moreover, Vegas unleashes a modern day twist with Mus Come a Road.

On Mus Come a Road, Mr. Vegas' passionately croons of the injustice of criminal justice. "There are some people behind bars who have been charged for a crime that is not as bad as the people who are in jail for murder, and the murders sometimes get out before them," says Mr. Vegas earnestly. "This song is for the people who have experienced that."

The Mus Come a Road single is joined by an appealing music video, currently in rotation on numerous American and Caribbean television outlets including BET J, VH1 Soul, Tempo, RE TV and Hype TV to name a few. As Prison Oval Rock was a hardcore vintage record, they wanted to capture it's essence with a Harder They Come themed video -- adding to the rough, street vibe of the song. In the video, Mr. Vegas is wanted and "on the road."

The Mus Come a Road video was produced by Winston Mayhew, who boasts a number of top Reggae music videos to his credit including Busy Signal's "Nah Go A Jail" and "These Are The Days," Morgan Heritage's "Look Pon Di Gully Side," and Duane Stephenson's "August Town."

Mr. Vegas catapulted on to the Reggae dancehall scene over ten years ago with the break through hit Heads High. For over a decade, he has been incessantly entertaining fans with timeless hits. His latest album Hot It Up, distributed by Delicious Vinyl, has been embraced by his fans. Notably, Hot Wuk made the Billboard charts. Now, Mr. Vegas is positioned to score again with the sure-fire Mus Come a Road.
